Cross Country Venues

"Willandra"

What can only be described as the jewel in the crown, this course is set in the foothills of Brown's Mountain, West Cambewarra, just west of Nowra. As this would suggest the course ranges from gently undulating farmlands, tranquil hidden valleys (including Max's Gully), to quite steep uphill grades. Almost as famous as it's city cousin, "Heartbreak Hill" is renowned for testing even the most talented runner but rewards the effort with one of the most breathtaking views and exhilirating downhill runs anywhere in the world. "Willandra" also provides four distances: 2km, 3km, 4km and 8km and is one of the premier cross country venues in N.S.W. having hosted the State and Australian National Titles several times

Not only club runners, but State and National title runners, are indebted to Jan and Rod Gibb for their years of hard work and dedication in creating such a beautiful course, for their commitment to the sport of athletics and for sharing both their property and their ideals with the rest of the community.

To complement the course Jan and Rod also provide excellent facilities, toilets, canteen, picnic areas with shade and car parking.

Longreach Road

South-west of Nowra, Longreach provides four distances: 2km, 3km, 5.6km and 9.1km. The first three are run over a combination of scenic bush tracks and fire trails (see below), with the 5.6km course also incorporating a section of bitumen along Longreach Road.

The longer 9.1km course is run along Bamarang Road and although finishing with a brutal uphill climb takes in the most incredible views of the Shoalhaven River, Arthur Boyd's "Bundanon" and the rugged Pulpit Rock.

Timberhills -Tomerong
Home of the "Bill McKinnon Memorial" run, this venue is 20 minutes south of Nowra and provides courses for all ages and abilities: 2km, 3km, 4.6km and 9.2km. A combination of forest trails (including the beautiful "Enchanted Forest"), open farmland and rural roads, this course is a favourite for those who enjoy a variety of terrains.

Club members are indebted to Ron and Ruth McKinnon for their hard work in designing, constructing and maintaining this fantastic cross country course (especially in light of the recent bushfires which ravaged the property), but most of all for their generosity in sharing it with the rest of us.

Track and Field Venue
