The Summer Road Runs competition had its Grand Finale at Longreach on Sunday morning. Team and individual runners were fully pumped for the 15km challenge and were rearing to go by the 7.00 am starting time. The 15km event was run over the combined Longreach Long and Medium cross country courses. Runners relished the opportunity to practice hill climbs and heavy breathing exercises whilst competing. Race organisers were surprised by the very close finish – the top 5 places were separated by less than one minute (well done Mr Handicapper). Indeed after a very demanding 14.9km the last 100 metres of the 15km race, came down to a sprint and a near photo finish. Zara Wells just managed to slip past Sky Martin with less than 20 metres to go to claim the prize for team Prince Jennings Wells. A short time later back marker Darren Morris surprised everyone (including himself) by overcoming a considerable handicap to finish in third place. Prior to Sundays Grand Finale the Clubs’ Summer Road Runners enjoyed an end of season dinner at the North Nowra Tavern on Friday night. |

Bush Marathon Nowra Athletics Club was well represented at the annual Fitzroy Falls Bush Marathon and Running Festival, held in Fitzroy Falls on Saturday morning. |

Local distance runners Scott Martin, Scott Foggo, Eric Moeller-Duhme, Steve McCullagh and Ming Leung took part in the gruelling 43km bush Marathon. All the Nowra boys finished the race in style well up the rankings with several posting personal best times. Fantastic work! Whilst the Marathon event was in full swing a very fit bunch from the Club took off in the 5km and 10km races. Although the distances were a little shorter the amount of effort given by everyone was every bit as good. Alex Pitkethly finished in a top three position overall with an outright win in his age category. Linda Weatherill finished second overall and first in her age category while Eva Moeller-Duhme crossed the line in front in her age group too. |

Well done to all the other Club members who took part – if it doesn’t kill you, it’ll make you stronger! The Club’s Summer Road Runs Competition was held at the Nowra Showground course on Saturday afternoon. Once again the event was well attended by Club members. A big welcome to all the new runners who attended, we all look forward to seeing you at some of our other courses over the rest of the season. In her first appearance at Summer Road Runs, cross country and King of the Mountain runner Karan Kenny made the most of the perfect conditions to claim first place. Well done! At the end of the race Club president Kevyn Davis thanked everyone for their efforts and congratulated the handicapper for setting up a number of very close finishes. Don’t forget next week’s Summer Road Runs will be at the Culburra course (Lake Wollumboola Reserve) starting at the new time of 5pm. A social barbeque is planned for after the race, so make sure you bring along what you need. New members are always
welcome at the Nowra Athletics Club and our Summer Road Runs. For
